Ten lessons from the Jodi Arias trial of 2013

Jodi Arias was tried in a Phoenix courtroom in February 2013 for the death of her former boyfriend, Travis Alexander. According to local media, the case has been getting quite a bit of attention nationally via certain cable networks. Since I didn’t have a cable tv subscription during the trial, I followed the case online as my schedule permitted.

Travis has been characterized by those who knew him as an all around great guy. In her self-defense testimony, Arias attempted to paint him as a sex-addicted pedophile with a controlling personality and scary temper.

At the time of this writing, Jodi is in her third day of cross-examination by the prosecutor and the verdict is unknown. Notwithstanding my personal take that she is guilty of premeditated murder, I think the case has brought to life ten key lessons we can all learn from.

Ten lessons from the Jodi Arias trial:

Ten Commandments on a scroll

The Ten Commandments

1. Have no other gods
2. Have no idols
3. Honor God’s name
4. Honor the Sabbath day
5. Honor your parents
6. Do not murder
7. Do not commit adultery
8. Do not steal
9. Do not perjure yourself
10. Do not covet

Look familiar? Any of us raised in a God-centered home recognize the lessons as the Ten Commandments. Unfortunately for Jodi and Travis, it appears these commandments were not impressed upon them at a young age.

It’s not too late for the rest of us to learn from their experience.
